A massively silly book which seems to lose interest in its own main storyline and go rambling. The best bits of this book are not the time travel or the assassination, it’s the quiet everyday drama that unfolds when the main character takes up a job as a small town high school teacher and falls in love with the school librarian, helping her heal from her troubled previous marriage. King should maybe try writing a straight fiction, as his strengths seem to increasingly be in that area. The story of George and Sadie overcoming Sadie’s troubled past would have been a novel in and of itself. It actually detracts from the story that there was this perfectly loopy time travel storyline wrapped around it, a storyline which satisfies no one, is cliched and depressing and pointless. And the ending is slapdash, no surprise there from King.
